Free and Discount Books

Most months I join free book promotions through Bookfunnel.com. It’s win-win as I get an opportunity to increase sales and grow my newsletter list, and you get free and discounted books. When the posted month is over, so is the promotion, so don’t wait!

Most of the promotions are a mix of short and novel-length fiction, and fantasy and science fiction. Some drill down further into sub-genres – and those can be a lot of fun.

If you want my story or book from one of these promotions, you’ll need to sign up for my newsletter, but can unsubscribe at any time, even right away. We’ve all done that! My newsletters go out once or twice a month.

March Into Another World – Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, Sci-Fi

I’m a sucker for a beautiful cover, and being in the mood for fantasy, first up is Siv’s Exile by Tobias Youngblood. I prefer to find each book or short story on Amazon and check it out first, which I wasn’t able to do here. I did look at other books of his and they look really good. So, if you like this one, you’re in for a treat. Some of his books ar  e also available on KU.

When We Were Human by Kate L. Mary is a dystopian post alien invasion mid-length youngish-adult novel, well written and well reviewed. Lots more by the same author that at a quick glance appear to be in the same mold, and most are available on KU.

Free Si-Fi & Fantasy (continued)

This promotion will run for all of 2025.

I had another look through this list of free books and this one caught my eye. We’re more used to nuanced heroes, even anti-heroes, same with our villains. Instead, The Bell Tolling (The Lord of Freedom Book 1) by Amena Jamali is a ‘ long ‘noblebright epic fantasy’ which tells a story of absolute good versus absolute evil. Get past the cover and have a look at the reviews. Also, book 2 is available on KU. I’ll be getting both.

Adventure Awaits -Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, Sci-Fi

I’ve been looking at a lot of fantasy lately, okay a lot of dragons, so it was a nice change to have some space opera catch my eye. Charlotte’s Army by Patty Jansen has a cute premise that ticks a lot of my ‘what-if’ boxes. On a plus note, the author is prolific with both fantasy and SF books and series available.

She also has novels included in two huge bundles in this batch of books. Spaceships & Dames: Nine novels of space adventure and Sword & Magic: Eight fantasy novels.

Free Si-Fi & Fantasy
(January – December 2025)

This promotion will run for all of 2025. There looks to be quite a few books added from January, so worth a look.

You’re going to think I didn’t try that hard. This is only the second book in the promo. Honestly, I was pulled in by the professionally done, classic old-school cover. And then, the promise of more works by the author cinched the mention here. Aliens Arising: Origins by Clayton Graham is a short prequel, or ‘story 0’ of his trilogy. He also has a couple of collections of short stories.

Where to Purchase

The complete Eye of the Ocean series is now available. Here’s the link to the first book on Amazon (US). For non-USA Amazon sites, either jump from the US site, or search for ‘Laurel Ann Hickey books’.

“A slow burn sci-fi? Count me in. I will admit that it doesn’t seem to be a beginner friendly science fiction novel. It seems to be more for the individuals well into the genre – which I’m lucky enough to be in that group. Still, I think every(body) could enjoy it.” Netgalley reviewer
