Free and Discount Books

Occasionally I join both free and discount book promotions through Bookfunnel.com. It’s win-win as I get an opportunity to increase sales and grow my newsletter list, and you get free and discounted books. When the posted month is over, so is the promotion, so don’t wait!

Most of the promotions are a mix of short and novel-length fiction, and fantasy and science fiction. Some drill down further into sub-genres – and those can be a lot of fun.

If you want my story or book from one of these promotions, you’ll need to sign up for my newsletter, but can unsubscribe at any time, even right away. We’ve all done that! My newsletters go out once or twice a month.

The Free Fantasy & Science Fiction for September 2024

There are some repeats here from the August promos, but lots of new books too. For some reason, my top picks are both urban speculative fiction, one urban fantasy, one near-future dystopian si-fi.

House of Ravens (just short of 200 pages), is a prequel in the well-rated Shadow Atlas trilogy. I’m always up for a fast-read YA fantasy, especially urban fantasy. And after reading the author’s bio, I too want to adopt a couple of street cats from Mongolia. Hands up – who here has lived an interesting life? Sigh.

Must be my month to get attracted to short(ish) books. Midway: The Organic Girl is part one of a near-future story about biotechnology gone wild. As one reviewer put it, it’s a ‘fast-paced, futuristic adventure (with a) cinematic, movie-style plotline.’

Free Sci-Fi & Fantasy

The first book that caught my attention is straight si-fi – a big stand-alone novel. I prefer reading series, but Missing Among the Stars is hefty enough to be a meal in itself.

I’ve also been pulled in by a zombie apocalypse story, Battlefield Z, first in a 20ish-book series. As far as I checked, they are all short novels and quick reads. One reviewer mentioned collections (books 1-6 and 7-12) but I can’t find them on the ‘Zon. B&N had more of the books, but no collections that I could find. Hopefully this will be sorted out by the time the promo goes live. The author has other series as well AND Audible books on Amazon, so if you like the first book, searching out the others might be worth the effort.

Where to Purchase

The complete Eye of the Ocean series is now available. Here’s the link to the first book on Amazon (US). For non-USA Amazon sites, either jump from the US site, or search for ‘Laurel Ann Hickey books’.

“A slow burn sci-fi? Count me in. I will admit that it doesn’t seem to be a beginner friendly science fiction novel. It seems to be more for the individuals well into the genre – which I’m lucky enough to be in that group. Still, I think every(body) could enjoy it.”
